The Student Union Building is built.

At least 30 military personnel assigned to the Capital Defense Command invade the Anam Campus and illegally arrest 5 students (5 October).
At least 1,500 Korea University students demonstrate to denounce the illegal act (12 October).
The Garrison Act is invoked in the entire area of Seoul to station armed units on the Anam Campus where at least 1,500 students are arrested (15 October).
The Ministry of Education orders Korea University to temporarily close as the protests intensify (25 October).

The Institute for Fundamental Sciences is founded.
Korea University celebrates the construction of its new Main Gate.
The Korea University Foundation assumes control over the Woosuk School Corporation, incorporating Woosuk University and its affiliated institutions.
The Department of Medicine and its premedical course, and the Department of Nursing are formed under the College of Medicine; the Department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature under the College of Liberal Arts; and the Department of Home Economics under the Division of Science, College of Science and Engineering. The Department of Ceramic Engineering is renamed as the Department of Material Engineering.

The Museum stages an exhibition Joeuisasokdo (朝儀士俗圖) in celebration of the 67th Anniversary.

The Business School Building is built.

Korea University is temporarily closed (for 45 days) and the Ko-Yon Games founders upon the proclamation of martial law by the president of Korea.

1972. 11.

The Ministry of Education selects Korea University as an Experimental Research Driven Institution.
The Institute of Educational Research is founded.

1972. 12.

The College of Education is established to include the Department of Pedagogy and the newly founded Department of Physical Education and Department of Home Economics Education. The Department of Industrial Management is renamed the Department of Industrial Engineering.

The Institute of Viral Diseases, the Institute of Environmental Medicine and the Institute of Tropical Endemic Diseases are founded.
Korea University and Waseda University sign a Student and Faculty Exchange Agreement.

The German Studies Institute is founded.

Korea University and University of Washington sign an Academic Exchange Agreement.

The Long-term Plan for the Development of Higher Education of Agriculture is finalized upon reception of grant aid from West Germany. The agreement between the Korean government and the West German government enters into force as of 9 July 1974.

The Department of Russian Linguistics and Literature is created under the College of Liberal Arts.

The Graduate School of Education introduces Winter/Summer Intensive Programs.

Korea University is forced to temporarily close as per the 7th Presidential Emergency Measure (until 13 May).

1975. 6.

Cha Rak-hoon is inaugurated as the 7th president.
The Student Union is forcibly disbanded and replaced by the Government-led student body Hakdohogukdan.

1976

1976. 3.

Woosuk Hospital is renamed Korea University Hospital.
The Institute for Media-Aided Education is founded, incorporating the Foreign Languages Education Center.

1976. 7.

The Korea University Faculty and Student Training Institute is built in Daecheon, Chungnam.

1976. 12.

The College of Agriculture building is completed.
The College of Education establishes the Department of Mathematics Education thereunder and expands the enrollment capacity for several of its departments, raising the entire university enrollment quota to 8,420.
The College of Commerce is renamed as the Business School.

Kim Sang-Hyup is inaugurated as the 8th president.

1977. 12.

The College of Science and Engineering is divided into the College of Science and the College of Engineering; and the Department of Korean Language Education is formed under the College of Education.

The New Wing of the Main Library, constructed in celebration of the 70th Anniversary, opens.

The Elementary College of Medical Practice affiliated to the College of Medicine is separated to become the College of Health Studies.
