Korea University Holds 2024 International Summer Campus (ISC) Opening Ceremony and Orientation

Korea University (President Kim Dong-one) held the opening ceremony for its International Summer Campus (ISC) on Wednesday, June 26th at 10 AM in Inchon Memorial Hall.

This year's ISC has attracted over 2,000 domestic and international university students, graduate students, and prospective college students from more than 300 universities across 50 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong. Approximately 1,000 students attended the opening ceremony, adding to the event's significance.

Professor Song Sang-kee, Vice President for International Affairs and Director of the International Summer Campus, delivered a video message, stating, "At Korea University, which is at the forefront of education in Korea, you will have opportunities not only to pursue academic pursuits but also to interact with a wide range of individuals. I hope you make wonderful memories."

In his welcome speech, Professor Antonio Fiori from the University of Bologna, representing the ISC faculty, said, "Education is not a solitary journey. It exists to enable all of us to understand, question, and take the lead in the world around us. I hope the ISC becomes a great educational platform for all of you."

Since its inception in 2004, Korea University's ISC has established itself as a premier international short-term education program. This semester, new courses such as "Old Boy to Squid Game: Navigating the Korean Cultural Wave" and "The Science of Language and Artificial Intelligence" have been introduced, reflecting students' interests.

The ISC faculty comprises professors from prestigious international institutions including Cornell University and University of California Davis in the US, the University of Nottingham in the UK, and Australian National University and the University of Sydney in Australia. They will teach approximately 90 courses in English, covering fields such as business, economics, humanities, sciences, and the Korean language.

ISC participants will have the opportunity to learn about Korean history and traditions through visits to Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung Palaces, as well as museum tours and Seoul city tours. Additionally, students can enjoy various free programs including attending a Korean professional baseball game, ice skating at Korea University's ice rink, and one-day classes in K-POP dance and Taekwondo.
