Korea University’s International Summer College (ISC) held a Korean food cooking class for its international students from 2 pm on July 15th.

In this session held at the Seoul Cooking Academy in Jongno-gu, the students cooked and tasted Korean food.

The dishes the students made were traditional Korean food: bulgogi and yachaejeon (vegetable pancakes). Teams of two paired up to cook, strictly followed quarantine and hygiene rules such as wearing a mask and disinfecting hands.

The students showed a keen interest in the class, flipping the yachaejeon with the frying pans like a professional. One participant, Taj Osama (20), expressed his satisfaction with the class, saying, “It was a class that lived up to my expectations, and the chefs who led the class helped us well. I learned a lot about Korean food. And my dishes tasted similar to those made by the chef, so I think I was a good cook.”

The class was also open to Korean students. Kim Gayoung (School of Media & Communication) said, “It was a good experience to take a cooking class with foreign students, and the dishes I made were even more delicious than I had expected.”

Andrew Cho (21) said, “This class had an impact on me. I learned new recipes and how to make good Korean dishes. The chefs did a really good job of explaining the cooking methods in great detail.”

This year's ISC, which started on June 28th, is a six-week program that runs until August 1st. In addition to the Korean food cooking class, the students participating in the ISC will take courses led by an excellent line of faculty members gathered from around the globe and participate in various Korean culture experience sessions, such as taekwondo, Nanta (a non-verbal show), and motor studio visits.
