Professor and her students made a donation to “create a space for students.”
Emeritus Professor Kim Choon-mie and her students, who are now professors themselves, donated KRW 70 million to Korea University to nurture younger students.

A retired emeritus professor and her students have sent donations to Korea University with the goal of nurturing younger students.

Korea University held a signboard hanging ceremony at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 19 in front of Lecture Room 223 in the College of Liberal Arts of Korea University, which is now named after Emeritus Professor Kim Chun-mie of the Department of Japanese Language and Literature.문과대학 서관 223호 강의실 앞에서 일어일문학과 김춘미 명예교수 강의실 현판식을 가졌다.

When Emeritus Professor Kim expressed her intention to donate KRW 50 million for the nurturing of current students, 12 of her students who had always respected her decided to donate an additional KRW 20 million, bringing the total donation to KRW 70 million. Professor Kim made this donation to Korea University, requesting that it be used for the establishment of the (tentatively named) Humanities and Social Sciences area.

To wishessignal its gratitude to Professor Emeritus Kim, the College of Liberal Arts named Room 223 of the West Wing of the College of Liberal Arts the Lecture Room of Emeritus Professor Kim Chun-mie, and held a signboard hanging ceremony.

At the ceremony, Professor Emeritus Kim said, “I am so grateful to President Chung and the school officials, professors and students who attended this event. I am happy that I can contribute to the creation of an advanced educational environment for Korea University's College of Liberal Arts, which has a long and venerable history and tradition.”

Professor Yu Jae-jin, one of Professor Emeritus Kim's past students who currently works at the Department of Japanese Language and Literature at Korea University, who contributed to the donation, said, “For Professor Kim, Korea University was not just a job, but a part of her life. I will do my best to build on her achievements and cherish the legacy of her sincere heart.”

Jung Byeong-ho, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, said, “Korea University and its faculty will always remember Professor Emeritus Kim Chun-mie's great commitment to the establishment of the Global Institute for Japanese Studies and the development of the Department of Japanese Language and Literature."
