With an eye to the advancement of AI research, 

Young-Gon Bae, CEO of Seohyun Information and Communication Co., Ltd., 

donates 100 million won

Young-Gon Bae, CEO of Seohyun Information & Communication Co., Ltd. (Electrical Engineering, Class of 69) and a graduate of the first class of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Korea University, donated KRW 100 million to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Electrical Engineering on November 22, 2019. Mr. Bae’s company carries out wireless communication facilities and mobile communication construction projects.

To commemorate Mr. Bae’s donation, Korea University held a ceremony at 2:00 pm on February 12th at the Korea University Main Hall. (The delayed date was to accommodate Mr. Bae’s schedule.)

Joining Mr. Bae at the donation ceremony were Jin Taek Chung (President of Korea University), Joong-Hoon Kim (Dean of the College of Engineering), Hyok-Key Song (Vice President for Development and External Affairs), In-Kyu Lee (Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering) and Professor Sung-Jea Ko (Department of Electrical Engineering).

Mr. Bae explained his motivation in donating. “As I enter old age, looking back, I am grateful for the whole process that has made me today. Last year was the 50th anniversary of my enrollment and the 50th anniversary of the Department of Electrical Engineering, and as one of the members of the festivities, I participated in fundraising campaigns for the department. I had heard that the College of Engineering is raising funds to establish an AI lab and hope that my donation would help a little bit.”

President Chung said, ““In the QS World University Rankings, Korea University's engineering and technology field has attained such a high status that it has been ranked No. 1 for three consecutive years among domestic private universities. Mr. Bae’s donation will help the development of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering as well as the establishment of the AI Research Institute.”
