KU signed a business agreement with the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM, President Lee Pyeong-koo) at the Mediheal Earth & Environmental Science Hall on March 8 (Friday) at 4 p.m. to ensure future geological resource security.

This business agreement covers ▲ policy research and project planning, ▲ joint research and the fostering of professional human resources, ▲ the exchange of human resources, technology, academic knowledge, and information, ▲ joint use of research facilities and equipment, and ▲ matters regarding international cooperation, including international research, international institutional exchanges, and international academic conferences.

KU and KIGAM will make continuous efforts to ensure future geological resource security by collaborating on mineral resources and materials, the environment, energy, climate change, and space resource development.

At the signing ceremony, President Kim Dong-one said, “KU has international-level research capabilities in essential fields of science and technology, from basic science to cutting-edge science. Therefore, the signing of this mutual agreement and organic research cooperation will greatly contribute not only to the development of the two institutions but also to the continued development of Korea.” President Kim also said, “KIGAM is leading R&D related not only to petroleum and natural gas, the traditional energy sources, but also to the exploration, development, and utilization of mineral resources, which are fundamental materials for all industries. So, we hope that, through this business agreement, the two organizations will closely engage in mutual cooperation to produce many results.”

Lee Pyeong-koo, the President of KIGAM, said, “KIGAM seeks to demonstrate its performance in three key areas: exploration of core minerals and securing resources, development of battery recycling technology, and space resource exploration. To accomplish these goals, we urgently need cooperation with universities with excellent future human resources. We hope that, through cooperation with KU, the two organizations can increase their research capabilities and gain more influence in the world.”
