Since the object of biotechnology is life on earth, it is closely related to food, energy, medical health, pharmacy and the improvement of environment. Biotechnology is a future-oriented, high-tech science technology field, demonstrating three characteristics: it furthers the development of new technologies, it creates value and it reduces pollution and its causes. Recently, due to a broader understanding of genetics, bio-chemistry and molecular biology, its application range has been expanded to new material production such as medical and chemical substances including anti-bacteria. In particular, genetic engineering, a field of bio-technology, is leading a third industrial revolution, presenting limitless possibilities for improvements to the functioning of organisms. As a field of study, it is rising in its position as a high-tech science, greatly improving the lives of human-beings and their overall welfare.
The Institute, in liaison with relevant research institutes on and off campus, was established for the purpose of contributing to the development of industries by pursuing joint research activities with Korean companies. It also aims to foster high-quality human resources required for research in this field, by acquiring cutting-edge technologies from advanced countries through international academic exchanges. |
