Integrating Humanities, Natural Science, Engineering, and Art
Korea University has been fully preparing for a real era of knowledge convergence. Based on the depth and systemization of traditional study, it is actively promoting future-oriented interdisciplinary studies in fields such as energy, environment, medical and life science, and pharmacy, and is expanding investment on media, design, IT, and nanotechnology.

Leading Hybrid Education that Enhances the Interconnectivity of Majors
Korea University is leading fields such as media convergence which combines broadcasting and communication, and research on brain and cognitive engineering which is a convergence of NT, BT, and CT. Moreover, departments such as Department of Renewable Energy, Department of Advanced Environmental Science, and Department of Energy and Environmental Policy are being established in its professional graduate school with the aim of breaking down the barriers between disciplines and leading the green energy era.

The New Challenge to Realize the Impossible

The Department of Psychology and College of IT in ‘The WCU Interdisciplinary Brain Engineering Project Team’ are jointly conducting research on brain and cognitive engineering.
The convergence of ideas from various fields is realizing impossible odds. A good example is the successful cases of Anam Hospital developing cancer bio-markers by integrating engineering and medical subjects such as bioengineering, pathology, and oncology.

Teamwork as a Primary Prerequisite for Communication

The students who graduated from Korea University have traditionally shown strong competitiveness in leadership, teamwork, and responsibility. These virtues, the prerequisite for the ’communication’ valued in the convergence era, are playing a crucial role in determining success and failure of the development of interdisciplinary studies.

The Best Education System that Nurtures Interdisciplinary Paradigm and Global Insight

Compulsory Second Major that Fosters Interdisciplinary Paradigm

Korea University has introduced for the first time in the nation a compulsory second major system aimed at giving students an interdisciplinary paradigm. The system seeks understanding in various academic disciplines to assist students adjust to a wide range of career paths in the era where an organic interconnection of academic disciplines is a prerequisite due to the diversification of knowledge areas.

Enhancement of Integrated Education and Multi-Professor Lecture Policy Aimed at Better Teaching Methodology

As the current era demands multi-players, the ability to interpret the world from various perspectives is needed. Korea University is not only strengthening academic communication and integrated education, but also enhancing teaching methodology through its multi-professor lecture policy.

Enhancement of Field Education through Domestic and Overseas Internships

In order to become a true world-class leader who can compete against the world, it is a prerequisite to know about the world and understand the field. The students of Korea University are enjoying the opportunity to acquire hands-on knowledge in various fields such as renowned large corporations, state-owned enterprises, broadcasting stations, government offices, and the National Assembly. Moreover, they can gain global insight through the international internship program operated by colleges.

The Advancement and Innovation of Education that are Realized in the Field

In order to further strengthen students’ capacity for self-driven study, Korea University is running programs supported by the Center for Teaching and Learning such as CCP (Creative Challenger Program), KUPT (Korea University Peer Tutoring), and learning assistance for students’ majors, to lead the advancement and innovation of education. The best results are being gained through creative insight, customized study know-how, and promotion of leadership.

Permanent Mentor of Korea University Ceaseless Efforts of Professors toward Research and Education

As a world-class, prestigious university, Korea University is also aiming to maintain the world’s best level in the field of teaching and learning. Such determination and sense of duty are leading to the serious and ceaseless efforts of its professors to create even more creative and effective teaching methods.

Efforts to Discover Creative and Effective Teaching Methodology

The FLCs (Faculty Leaning Communities) program allows professors to form groups voluntarily to jointly seek problem solutions in relation to lectures, and discover and develop creative and effective teaching methodology. It enhances the ability of individuals and the bond among professors to achieve quality improvement of education. Moreover, ways to improve lectures are drawn up by an objective analysis based on lecture consulting and coaching programs conducted by experts. Small group workshop programs on teaching methodology offer a process of acquiring overall teaching information including English lectures, effective teaching methods, and class operation methods, and a chance to share each other’s opinion.

Professors' Sense of Duty and Responsibility in Terms of Curriculum

Korea University’s quality management of its curriculum of majors shows its leading competitiveness.  To this end, various efforts are gaining results such as the advising professor system for undergraduates that is up to par with the research guidance of graduate schools, real-name education system that leads to the quality improvement of the curriculum by strengthening the sense of responsibility of professors, and enhancement of quality in the curriculum of professors based on the remarks of students after taking class. The Stone Pagoda Lecture Award, given to the outstanding lecturer of each semester, is serving as a medium to disseminate exceptional lecture methods to other professors.
