Embodiment of Communication Education History in Korea
Korea University established Korea’s first Department of Mass Communication in 1965, opening a new chapter in the field of education in mass communication, and more than 50 professors and 400 experts in the field have graduated from the College. It ranks top in the field of education in the communication sphere in terms of employment rate, graduate careers and comprehensive evaluation including the research of professors.
The School of Media and Communication has become an incubator of talent due to its effective pedagogy that integrates theory and practice. Its curriculum includes a wide range of courses from fundamental theoretical subjects such as ‘History of Korean Journalism’ and ‘Theory of Mass Communication’ to practical courses including ‘Field Practice of Mass Communication Media’, ‘Advertisement Practice’ and ‘Broadcast Practice’.

The activities of the School’s academic associations not only symbolize its competitiveness but also function as a microcosm of the actual field the students will enter after graduation and provide opportunities to utilize the knowledge and skills they have acquired through the practical courses. Currently, there are nine associations including Photojournalism Association, Advertisement and PR Association, and Visual Media Association. Among them, the Photojournalism Association has the longest history with more than thirty years.
