Brain of Basic Science Underlying Scientific Innovation
The speed of development in the basic science sector is moving beyond our imagination, and the results of its research and development are creating substantial wealth through the process of commercialization and industrialization. This has been made possible because the cornerstone of the information and telecommunication industry or bio-nano technology has been laid and application measures and principles research are being pursued through research in basic science. Through the application of chemistry and physics, it becomes possible to understand complex medical or life science phenomena. As such, the convergence between basic science and applied technology is becoming ubiquitous in daily life and its necessity is increasingly assuming more importance.

| All departments in the College of Science at Korea University are being supported by the BK21 Program, initiated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in 1999. Moreover, a branch of the Basic Sciences Institute was installed on the campus of the College of Science in 1993 to not only support the collaborative research between industry and university but also to assist the research conducted at the College of Science. The exalted name of Korea University’s College of Science in the nation on all fronts including education and research has been backed by the Basic Science Institute since its establishment in 1971, along with the research environment that has nine institutes under the College of Science. |
