Turning Korea University into the Symbol of Ethnic Studies
The most fundamental reason why Korea University is an ethnic studies university is its College of Liberal Arts that ranks foremost in the area of Korean studies. The College of Liberal Arts assumes the crucial role of continuing and developing ethnic culture in Korean studies, and is leading globalization and internalization by conducting world-class education and research in the fields of the humanities and foreign language/literature.
As can be seen from the examples of establishing the Department of Chinese Language and Literature and Department of Russian Language and Literature before the establishment of formal relations with the corresponding countries, and establishing undeveloped departments in Korea such as the departments of Spanish Language and Literature, Japanese Language and Literature, Classical Chinese, and Linguistics, the College of Liberal Arts has stood at the forefront of Korean academia by suggesting appropriate means of addressing the rapid global changes.

|
| The Department of International Studies, Language, and Literature, in the College of Liberal Arts, has realized the importance of global leadership and established the '7+1' system that actively recommends (and supports) students to spend one semester out of the eight semesters required for graduation in a foreign country. Moreover, it is providing students with an opportunity to acquire new academic experience based on various agreements concluded with prestigious domestic and international universities. |
