the President
I would
like to sincerely welcome you to Korea University.
Korea University, founded in 1905 on a mission to save the nation
through education, has proceeded along the same path as Korea
itself over the past century. In this sense, Korea University
embodies the entire history of Korean tertiary education. Korea
University stood at the forefront of the anti-Japanese movement
during the Japanese occupation and led Korea's economic and
political development and social democratization. Korea University
has also captured the zeitgeist of Korean modern history at
critical junctures.
Having developed through
the love and support of the Korean people, Korea University
is now preparing to assume leadership in global education.
The world has already established itself as a single vast
and interlinked community, demolishing national boundaries,
and this change is continuing unpredictably and instantaneously.

As national
boundaries are also disappearing on the academic and research
front, Korea University is already competing against globally
prestigious universities in numerous areas, including the
innovation of educational service and attainment of research
competitiveness. We have recruited eminent scholars in all
major fields, and are achieving remarkably rapid growth in
terms of globalization of education and educational excellence.
The sights of Korea University,
however, are set even further beyond these achievements. We,
Korea University, will not only further enhance key indicators
such as research, infrastructure and globalization, but also
grow into a university that can win the hearts of the global
community as we have with the Korean people. We will become
a university that garners the affection and respect of all
through sincere volunteer work and interaction, a university
whose graduates are trusted by society in terms of character,
and a university that is globally recognized as being world-class
in all aspects.
We, the community of Korea
University, are exerting tireless and passionate efforts not
only for the Korean people but also the peace and prosperity
of humanity. It is therefore my hope that you will keep watching
closely the development of Korea University as an incubator
of insightful global leaders, a leading creator of new knowledge,
and a prestigious university that is held highly in both national
and global esteem. Furthermore, I would like to ask for your
unwavering support and encouragement.
